Extra information recorded
Wangurdukurlangu yilpinji travels through Mt Theo, Yarungkanyi and Kumpu. They said the women dance while they sing this. You sing this one so women will come to you. At first they are women singing and then they turn into men and then back into women again. They tie their hair up with hairstring and then put pukurdi on their head. There are feathers right on the top.

Wangkurdukurlangu yilpinji.
10:20 Marnakiji song, they sing this to the marnakiji when they are raw and then when they come back they’ve ripened up. At Kumpu.
15:30 Yininti, make the hole with kangaroo bones and then thread them on to hairstrings.
16:00 They are putting yurlpa all over themselves so they look good whilst they’re singing.
18:29 They put the little scraping of wood from the trees behind their ears.
18:54 They are combing their hair with the little round circular prickles.
22:10 At Yarungkanyi there are mingkirdi that are really hard. They start to dance with two witi poles tied to each of their ankles.
23:30 Jangala was moving his fingers side to side. This song is around Kirdirdi near Mt Doreen Station.

Story about the song.
When they’d finished Paddy Stewart told Tommy Rice that he’d gone too quick for him and he should sing each song three times each.

The women change skin section according to which country they are in. Place names are underlined in Jeannie’s notes.
1/ Nakamarra when started. She had a firestick and was carrying it as she left Karnanyirlanyirla. She camped halfway. The firestick was going down. She was singing as she walked along.
2/ She turned into a Napangardi as she was going past Mt Theo. She walked south from Mt Theo.
3/ She saw some marnakiji but they were still raw
4/ Then she went to Kurlanpirlinpa where they were ripe = yimirlki.
5/ She was singing yilpinji and started dancing at Wantuwantu.
6/ She walked south and found a yininti tree where she started picking them. It is near Yarungkanyi.
7/ Then she turned into a Napaljarri at Yurlpungu – where she was putting red ochre yurlpa on.
8/ She then turned into a man and got the witi poles and started dancing. The ladies were sitting there too. They were frightened of the noise that the witi were making because they thought it was magic. They ran into a cave.
