Title Hkra pu n rawng ai lam | Why cicadas don't have intestines
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai & Keita Kurabe)
Now I'm going to tell you why cicadas don't have intestines. Once upon a time, when God created creatures, cicadas also had intestines. Today, however, cicadas don't have intestines. I'll tell you why — Once upon a time, a monkey was sitting on top of a very tall tree. Suddenly, a cicada came and chirped loudly nearby. The cicada's cry startled the monkey, and he jumped up. He jumped toward a squirrel who was chewing a Lahpai fruit on the tree. Because the monkey jumped toward him, the squirrel, who was eating the fruit, was so startled that he tossed the Lahpai fruit from the top of a tall tree. The Lahpai fruit that the squirrel threw from the top of a tall tree hit the back of an elephant that was looking for food under the tree. Because the fruit hit his back, the elephant was so startled that he ran away. When he ran away in such a way, he stepped on a frog with his foot. The frog's intestines came out. So the frog asked, "Mr. Elephant, why did you step on me?" "My intestines have come out." "Please cure me." The elephant replied, "No, it's not my fault." "It was because a squirrel dropped a fruit on my back." "I was so startled that I ran away and this happened." So they asked the squirre, "Mr. Squirrel, why did you do this?" The squirrel replied, "I was here eating the fruit." "Then a monkey jumped toward me." "I was so surprised that I threw the fruit away." So they asked the monkey, "Mr. Monkey, why did you jump?" The monkey replied, "It's because a cicada began to chirp suddenly." "I was so startled that I jumped." "I jumped toward the squirrel." Then, they asked the cicada about it. The cicada couldn't say anything. So they took out the cicada's intestines, and put them in the frog's stomach. In that way they cured the frog. That's why, although all the creatures in the world have intestines, cicadas don't have intestines. That is because long ago, the cicada had to return its intestines to the frog.
