Paddy told me that the men put yurlpa all over themselves so that they look good for the women. They sing these songs to a razor blade and then shave with it and then they look really clean like a half-caste one. When they are in the bush they sing these songs at sunrise.
Ngarnka is a big hill in the east. This is the one you sing to the razor blade. When they used to be out droving and watching over the cattle they’d sit down every night and sing yilpinji everytime they were in a new camp.
The Anmatyerre and Warlpiri women sing yilpinji too. The women’s one is called Muwarri yilpinji. |
